Chronic Inflammation: The Silent Killer

We live in an inflammation nation. Chronic inflammation is either directly or indirectly the cause of most diseases. In face, of the ten leading causes of death in the United States, chronic low level inflammation is involved in at least seven. They are heart disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease and kidney disease.

It is also a major cause of arthritis. The danger of chronic low level inflammation is that its silent nature brings about its destructive power. In fact, stress induced inflammation once triggered can persist undetected for years or even decades promoting cell death throughout the body. Chronic inflammation is caused by cell dysfunction. Cell dysfunction is caused by three things.

  1. Foods, mainly sugar and the foods that break down into sugars.

  2. Environmental toxins such as the air we breath and the tap water we drink.

  3. Smoking.

These toxin irritants and sugars from the food we eat cause the cell to breakdown, which creates free radicals. Free radicals damage the cellular structures and initiate a cascade of pro-inflammatory signals that can result in cell death, or even uncontrolled cell growth cancer
